PhD Student, Department of Geography, King's College London.
Sol’s research has taken him to the exotic lands of far-flung Enfield, the distant depths of Barnet and the startling surroundings of Sheffield. More likely to be found lycra-clad racing across London on his bike to his next school than bumping around in a landrover, Sol’s fieldwork involves interviewing sixth-form students in schools across London and Sheffield. Altercations with caretakers, being intimidated by grammar schools and feeling a bit out of place at sixth form open evenings are just some of the thrills and spills of Sol’s research. His talk will discuss the experience of interviewing across class and ethnic lines and crossing the invisible and visible geographic and sociological boundaries which divide schools in English cities.
